§ 2-5. Mandatory retirement.

  • (a)

    Notwithstanding other provisions of this section to the contrary, law enforcement personnel and firefighters employed by the city, except for elected officials, who shall have attained the age of sixty-five (65) shall be separated from public service by the appointing authority.

    (b)

    In any case in which the appointing authority certifies that the continuance in service of the employee who shall have attained the age of sixty-five (65) or over would be advantageous to the public service by reason of his expert knowledge and qualifications, such employee may be continued in public service by his appointing authority beyond the age of sixty-five (65) for periods of one (1) year.
